‘Title IX’
The Washington University volleyball team won the 2007 NCAA Division III Championship, its ninth in school history, with a 3-2 (30-25, 23-30, 30-22, 28-30, 15-13) win over the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The title match, taking place on Saturday, November 17, 2007, in Bloomington, Illinois, was the team’s third since winning it all in 2003, but it was the first time in four years the Bears were able to reach the pinnacle of Division III volleyball. Head coach Rich Luenemann, who won his 900th match as a collegiate head coach earlier in the NCAA Tournament, won the second NCAA title of his career. Nine titles is a Division III volleyball record.
